United Way of Hall County puts mission statement to work online

GAINESVILLE - The United Way of Hall County (UWHC) weighs the success of every project or program on how well it meets their mission. With that standard in mind, President Anna Gines believes their new Web site, www.unitedwayhallcounty, is an overwhelming success. The mission statement reads, "to unite the people, organizations and resources within our community to build a stronger, safer and healthier Hall County."

"When we began planning what we were going to do on the Web," Gines said, "we decided to do more than just put a brochure online. We made the commitment to stick true to our mission statement and develop an interactive resource that the entire community could use as a starting place to get or give help. We believe we have achieved this goal."

Visitors to the site will find interactive sections that allow them to view community and UWHC committee events, read the latest news on United Way programs and member agencies, research articles on subjects ranging from "Volunteering" to "Community Issues", and view a list of "Current Volunteer Opportunities" within Hall County. Online forms allow supporters to donate money or volunteer their time for particular events and charities.

The site also contains static information ranging from programs and staff contact information to past volunteer leaders and fundraising history. Visitors to the site can learn how and where money is spent, the phone numbers and Web addresses of partner agencies and where to call when suffering from an individual or family crisis. Whether seeking help or interested in helping others, the United Way believes there is something on this site relevant to almost every member of the Hall County community.

Red Clay Interactive, Inc., a Gainesville Web development and marketing firm, has worked with the UWHC throughout the entire process of planning, gathering information, developing, and launching the site. Red Clay developed the site with multiple database-driven sections that United Way staff can update and maintain without advanced computer experience. United Way staff is now being trained on how to use all aspects of the interactive site to ensure that the site is updated regularly.

The United Way of Hall County has been part of the Gainesville-Hall County Community since 1948. In 2000 UWHC raised more than $1.9 million from over 11,000 donors. These generous donations are being used throughout 2001 to help provide services for 60,000 children and families demonstrating that United Way is truly the way Hall Countians care for one another.
