On Friday, October 10, the ghosts of Gettysburg were alive and well during the Travel Channel's "Most Haunted Live" telecast. In addition to the on-air programming, Red Clay Interactive enhanced the
interactive experience by developing live
webcams that allowed viewers at home help investigate the paranormal happenings.
"'Most Haunted Live' was an incredible experience for our company," said Lance Compton, president of Red Clay Interactive. "It was a great opportunity to partner with a national television network and employ the technical and creative skills we specialize in to establish an interactive experience for viewers."
This year's "Most Haunted Live" featured a team of professional investigators, mediums, parapsychologists, and historians as they played ghost busters at the sight of the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. The team surveyed four separate homes all said to be haunted with the spirits of former owners who met untimely ends.
Each location had one webcam set up, which allowed those at home to spot things going bump in the night. When they saw something suspicious, viewers could text the on-site team their findings to encourage further inspection.
"This year's edition was an enormous success," said Drew Fredrick, senior director of IT & technology for The Travel Channel. "Red Clay was an incredible partner, providing the quality and performance we needed for our online audience," he said.
Joseph Chambers, Red Clay's project lead for "Most Haunted Live," said working on a live event brings added pressure. "Creating something that hundreds of thousands of people will use at one time is an immense challenge," he said. "But we were able to pool our resources and deliver a product we are really proud of."
Fredrick agrees. "Red Clay exceeded our highest expectations," he said. "They truly understood our needs and delivered excellent results in short order," he said.
Since 2005, "Most Haunted Live" has visited some of world's most notorious locations for hauntings and paranormal activity. This year's webcam had over 220,000 viewers in its 7 hours of live broadcast, with a max of over 120,000 people watching at one time, a significant increase over last year's event.
"It is an exciting time to be a digital marketing agency, with the Internet continuing to bring different forms of mass communication together," said Compton. "Being a part of a TV show from your living room, and continuing the experience online when the show leaves the air, creates an exciting world of full immersion entertainment. Red Clay is excited to be an industry leader in this cutting edge arena."
