Summer Season Sends Staffers to Camp

Red Clay staff members attend a Wordpress workshop

Recently, three Red Clay staff members attended WordCamp, a weekend workshop on the functionality of WordPress, in Richmond, Va. The conference, which focused on everything from custom designs to security, was part of Red Clay's ongoing efforts to provide cost efficient solutions.

"The WordPress platform allows us to offer clients more control over their site at a more affordable price," said Anthony Defoor, project manager with Red Clay. "This conference was all about widening our scope on what a WordPress site can do."

Beginning as a blogging platform, WordPress has transitioned into fully functioning web solution. Since then, WordPress has made their code available to the programming community, which has opened up exciting possibilities.

"There are really no limits to what a WordPress site can do or look like anymore," said Defoor. "And since it began as a blogging platform, it indexes incredibly well for sites that focus on search engine optimization."

Zach Abernathy, a developer with Red Clay, also attended the conference. He shared Defoor's enthusiasm.

"What amazed me was the robustness of WordPress as a content management system," he said. "The tools and plugins that are compatible with the system basically allows for complete customization," he said. "The fear of looking like everyone else is erased."

Jeremy Clements, a Red Clay programmer and fellow attendee, enjoyed networking with others in the field.

"I think there was a lot to gain from the relationships we were able to make," said Clements of the trip. "Now I can draw from the wider experiences of large group of programmers, which can add value to the clients I serve at Red Clay.

Coming back, Defoor is excited about sharing their new expertise with current and potential clients.

"Working with WordPress allows us to reach out even further into the small business community and offer solutions that work," he said. "Plus, we won free T-Shirts for driving the furthest to attend, and who wouldn't love that."
